It’s a wrap for the 2nd Annual Fall Novice trip.  There were 32 paddlers, 2 dogs and 1 cat!  We did the Hanging Rock to Moratock Park section of the Dan River which features several nice rock formations as well as the old Iron Furnace at out take out. This is the section too, that the TPA did a river clean up on last weekend.  Water level was low but it was clear and cool and otherwise conditions were great.  These are a few comments heard along the way: “I feel my stress level just.. drop! It all just goes away as soon as I hit the water”, “Stress! Who said stress! There’s no stress on the river!”, “This is so relaxing”, “This is just what I needed today!”.  Several of our paddlers were new to moving water and this was a perfect introduction for them.  True to the spirit I’ve found in the paddling community in general, several experienced paddlers were quick to introduce themselves and indicate their willingness to be available throughout the day for suggestions, instruction a watchful eye… whatever they wanted or needed.

Post paddle we fired up a couple grills and set out everyone’s contributions for a pot luck picnic.  Connections were made, tall tales were told, ‘community’ happened.  Big ideas start from little conversations and I do believe a few may have started including mention of a 3rd Annual Fall Novice trip!

It was great day on the river.
