Event Type

Ocoee Drawdown is a special time. It’s not cold, but you can (usually) tell winter is coming. It’s a time of peace and quiet on the Ocoee, where you can find your way.

The Ocoee runs the entire week. Midweek there is typically little to no traffic on the river, and a great chance to enjoy the Ocoee without playing bumper cars.

I’ll be up there camped at Thunder Rock, and welcome others to join me. Worth noting for anyone who doesn’t know me that I am not a playboater, so I at least will be doing several runs on the Middle Ocoee each day, and people are welcome to join me for one or more of them. I am happy to discuss lines to those who desire it. Others are welcome to paddle as they wish!

The Middle Ocoee is a Class III/III+ river with 15+ rapids packed almost back-to-back for five miles. Swims can be long and likely include a lot of rocks — think solid combat roll. The Pigeon is easier, but several solid comfortable Pigeon runs are a typical precursor to a successful day on the Ocoee.

Covid vaccination is required for this trip.

All participants in any Carolina Canoe Club (CCC) trip do so as common adventurers. The CCC or its individual members may coordinate paddling trips but no one is considered leader of a trip. As common adventurers, all participants take the responsibility for making their own decisions including, but not limited to, whether it is safe for them to participate on any particular water body, what equipment they need and use, the routes they may choose to paddle, whether their skill levels and abilities are adequate for the activity or whether climate and water conditions are appropriate for their participation. Participants are exclusively responsible for their own safety.

Individual coordinators for all CCC activities set requirements per their sole discretion. The CCC does not necessarily endorse or approve requirements set by coordinators.
