I got word “at the last minute” that Kibler was doing an unscheduled release at 9000 KW. I quickly posted a trip on CCC for this release. Since it was a last minute trip, I did not know if anyone would be able to plan to join me. Kevin Kizer and Steve Gause and his daughter Carol contacted me and we met at Picnic Table to set shuttle. We got to the top early, which was a good thing because there were a lot of boaters taking advantage of this unscheduled release. Carol Gause had just completed the CCC beginner clinic the weekend before. Steve opted to have Carol join us below Basketball Rapid. The rest of us easily made it through Power House, watched a couple swims and proceeded on down through Public enemy and Basketball. We were joined by Carol and continued down to Picnic Table, stopping to surf a little when we could find a wave that was not too crowded.
After taking out at Picnic Table we discussed a second Lap. Steve and Carol decided they had had enough for her first run at Kibler. Congratulations to Carol on a great first run and a dry hair day. Kevin and I decided to do a second lap and set shuttle for this lap. Upon finishing shuttle, I saw a friend at the top that was looking for someone to make a second lap with. We invited Allison Zdan to join us on our second lap. We were also joined by Justin (I did not get his last name) from Greensboro on both laps. Not paying attention, I pinned on a rock between Powerhouse and Public Enemy on my second lap, capsized, but made my roll. The rest had dry hair days. We ended our second lap just below 7 Stitches rapid where the Smith River Valley Canoe Club (SRVCC) was having a cookout. We had a great time visiting and eating with them.
I had such a great time that I will coordinate another Kibler trip during the scheduled releases in July. Jack Conrad
