A New WOR Tradition? I sure hope so.

I’ve always wanted to paddle the Nolichucky, but the opportunity never materialized.  It’s been an option at WOR, but last week I was finally able to join a group making its way to USA Raft for the shuttle.

USA Raft’s Eric Stuart and my old pal Dale Swanson were incredibly accommodating, organized, and got us on the road in short order.  Dale shuttled my half of the group that included the legendary Woody Callaway who along with his old pal, Eric Young, lead us first-timers down what I would describe as something akin to the New River Gorge—absolutely breathtaking. To me, the Noli is a longer, prettier version of the Ocoee without the floating entrapments and a run a solid Class III boater can handle.

When we finished, we availed ourselves of some outstanding draft beer and some rather epic hot dogs.  The Nolichucky, USA Raft, and WOR make for a perfect match.
