On Friday 10-19-18 Tom Womble and I paddled the Nantahala from Ferebee's down to the NOC for part one of the two part trip.  We met in the parking lot of NOC and proceeded to transfer Tom's boat over to my car.  As we were loading Tom's boat a guy, Dougie from New Zealand, came up and asked if we were running the river and if we were if he could join us.

We Swam!

Over the winter I outfitted my 16' Old Town Canoe Penobscot with a spray deck. This is in an effort to get my wife out white water paddling with me more and also to take on less water in the canoe.

I decided that the Nanty would be the best trip to test out the spray deck since last time we paddled the canoe on the Nanty it swamped several times. I posted the trip and had one paddler express interest in joining, and then he was a no show.

Friday: Nantahala gorge: Jamilla Squires, Jim Wendling, Art Berg (PFD!), Me. Had a cloudy, cool day to warm up our first day of the weekend. Sprinked a litlle but was really great to be back on the river.

Participants: Elyse Lee, Pablo Destefanis, Joe Mount, Martha Mount, Eric Mount, Rich Ruhlen, Sara Ruhlen, Chuck ?, Liz Phelps.

My goals for the trip were minimal planning and maximum chillaxation time on the river and Turkey Creek campground. I'd only ever been down the Tuck gorge once and Nantahala at least a dozen times, but never seem to be able to remember any of the rapids, so luckily we had several seasoned boaters to lead the way.

Participants:  John McDonald, Amy Rae Fox, Kevin Kizer, Spencer Muse, Scott Gallinger, Dave Sink, Corinne Sink, Jo and Don Beyer

The Nantahala River was definitely the place to be this past Saturday as a small contingent of CCC paddlers met to enjoy a day on the river and participate in the first round of the 2011 Canoe Club Challenge slalom event.
