When will Eno State Park Open?

Flooding from Tropical Depression Chantal pushed the Eno River to 25.63 feet on the morning of July 7, according to the National Water Prediction Service, a part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Chantal surpassed Hurricane Fran’s record of 23.58 feet in September 1996, causing significant damage to Eno River State Park. The park receives more than a million visits a year, according to the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation. Radewicz said there is no timeline for when the park will reopen.

  1. I understand that the park will be closed for a number of months and they may gradually open sections of the park as they are “cleaned” up. The cable bridge is a wreck, and I don’t know if it should be portaged or if it can be run. I would call the park office and ask about paddling if I were paddling. I don’t think paddling through the park would be illegal but ss Richard Mann said when Durham cops pulled over our boater caravan after hurricane Fran and told us “YOU CAIN’T PADDLE! THE RIVERS ARE CLOSED! “Well, if I’m going to get arrested, then let it be for paddling.”
