Update:
More Pro Tips:
First-timers and returning veterans of this trip would be wise to get to the meet spot a good bit early. If you plan on arriving around 9am, you’ll have time to get a biscuit (to go), deliver your food donation, change into your river gear, and shift boats.
The MMRT 2023 is a CCC trip that happens every 3rd weekend in January. It is listed on the
Carolinacanoeclub.org website. I am the organizer. I draw on many folks from many different clubs/organizations to make this work. As time draws closer, excitement is growing. If you want to be a part of or pitch in, hit me up! The most beneficial way you can help right now is to grab your crew and commit to making this trip. Do that massive/case-grabbing shop at your favorite grocery store. Make your cool river dish! And lastly bring your kind, generous, open-hearted self to the meet spot. The CCC has been a great part of my growth as a boater and a human being. Still, a lot more to go on both ends, but I’ll be working on them Saturday, January 21st hopefully with you!
Bring it!
MMRT 2023 will meet at 10 am in the Stoneville Memorial Park parking lot, which is located on Priddy Drive in Stoneville NC. This trip is all about community—Building and giving back.
Bring your best and soon-to-be best friends. Feel free to invite your friends. Many-valued friendships have been made on this trip. We will have Gauley boaters, Green river boaters, and punks like you and me. New boaters are strongly encouraged. If you can stay afloat in class 2 come on down. Life jackets are required. Helmets are required for any boat in which the paddler wears a skirt. I’ll be wearing one while paddling a canoe.
Food Pantry Donations
Bring every bit of food in your house and then shop for more. Canned goods to feed the local community. If you can not make the trip send your collection with a friend. Lot 2540 will be the recipient of this year’s donations. Local ministry located in Mayodan. They will have a “big truck” meet us at Stoneville Memorial Park to pack the donations. Please make this a big priority. Too much is never enough.
River Clean Up
Shane Brown will be leading a clean-up of the put-in and take-out. He will chime in when all is set. Anna Wheller with DRBA has been in contact and offered assistance as well.
Take-Out Social
Matt Czajkowski returns as the Hot Chocolate Guy. Matt has a sweet set up and we are thankful for him. Bring your own cup and an extra one for a friend. Hot Chocolate Guy may ask for a pop-up tent or two and maybe a couple of tables. Be on the lookout for updates.
Our take-out social has become legendary. Bring your favorite river dish to share. You foodie types, this is your chance to shine. From shrimp cocktails to winter Oreos what will you impress us with? No pressure here. Do you have skills? Prove it.
This is the event of the year and you do not want to miss out. Make plans. Start your food pantry collection. Dream big. It is MMRT 2023 pimping time! Bring it!
Follow up
This is a canoe/kayak trip on the N fork of the Mayo River. Located around Stoneville NC. Gentle class 2 river with a couple of challenging rapids at the takeout. These are easily walked. Test your skills on the world-famous “Boiling Hole” and “S Turn” rapids if you dare.
Pro Tips
Get a biscuit from Debbie’s in Stoneville. Cat head biscuits are the real deal.
Arrive at Stoneville Memorial Park a bit early and after saying hello, drop off your food pantry donations and change into your drysuit or river wear. Go ahead and consolidate boats. We’ll have a somewhat brief meeting with words from DRBA, Lot 2540, Dan Riverkeeper, and some slack Cboater. We’ll head to the put-in and drop boats in 2 waves and hopefully get on the water at 11:30ish. Arrive at the take-out around 3. Combination running shuttle and river clean up. We’ll then drink some hot chocolate and eat your heavenly dishes. Sounds too good to be true, right? Bring it!
