Ever wanted to coordinate a trip, but were unsure what you’d need to do? Want to be eligible for the CCC trip coordinator incentives? Do you have questions about the trip coordinator resources?

Join us June 15 at 7:00 pm for a panel on trip coordination to pick the brains of the some of CCC’s most prolific trip coordinators!

Purpose: Train, support, and encourage trip coordinators, with a particular focus on preparing coordinators for Week of Rivers events.

  1. Welcome and Introductions (10 min) Brief round of introductions, especially welcoming potential first-time coordinators.
  2. Why Lead a Trip? The Rewards of Coordination
  • Veteran coordinators share experiences: lifelong friendships, watching new boaters develop, why the effort is worth it.
  1. Lowering the Barrier
  • Encouraging first-time coordinators to start with smaller, limited group sizes
  • Addressing common fears around leading less-experienced participants
  1. Vetting Participants: Honest Communication
  • Truthful communication: attendees being honest about skills and attendance
  • Being assertive during vetting
  • Meaningful questions to assess experience and readiness
  • Handling participants who may overstate ability
  1. Practical Trip Organization
  • How to promote available trips to potential participants
  • Setting realistic group sizes (especially for first-time coordinators)
  • Logistics, communication, and day-of expectations
  1. Specific Upcoming Trips
  • Week of Rivers preparation: what coordinators need to know
  • Other trips on the horizon
  1. Open Discussion / Q&A for New Coordinators Dedicated time for questions from anyone considering leading their first trip.

You can do this!  You don’t have to be an expert.  Learn the basics in this panel and Q&A session.

All participants in any Carolina Canoe Club (CCC) trip do so as common adventurers. The CCC or its individual members may coordinate paddling trips but no one is considered leader of a trip. As common adventurers, all participants take the responsibility for making their own decisions including, but not limited to, whether it is safe for them to participate on any particular water body, what equipment they need and use, the routes they may choose to paddle, whether their skill levels and abilities are adequate for the activity or whether climate and water conditions are appropriate for their participation. Participants are exclusively responsible for their own safety.

Individual coordinators for all CCC activities set requirements per their sole discretion. The CCC does not necessarily endorse or approve requirements set by coordinators.
