This is Catawba River Section 3 of Ferguson’s Canoe Kayak South Carolina

This is a Class I/II trip, appropriate for Novice or more skilled paddlers. Note; At water levels about 4000 cis, the difficulty of the few rapids increases and novices could be challenged.

Whitewater boats are ideal. Other plastic boats could be used, probably no longer than 12 ft. Any sit-inside boats should have spray skirt. PFD is mandatory. Helmets are desirable and mandatory for whitewater boats.

The main feature of this trip is the blooming Rocky Shoal Spider Lilies. They are at their peak now. This is a rare species, only found in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina. Landsford has the largest colony.

The plants are large and voluptuous and seem out of place growing out of rocks. Those paddlers familiar with the river below Catawba Falls may have seen one of the small colonies there.

All participants in any Carolina Canoe Club (CCC) trip do so as common adventurers. The CCC or its individual members may coordinate paddling trips but no one is considered leader of a trip. As common adventurers, all participants take the responsibility for making their own decisions including, but not limited to, whether it is safe for them to participate on any particular water body, what equipment they need and use, the routes they may choose to paddle, whether their skill levels and abilities are adequate for the activity or whether climate and water conditions are appropriate for their participation. Participants are exclusively responsible for their own safety.

Individual coordinators for all CCC activities set requirements per their sole discretion. The CCC does not necessarily endorse or approve requirements set by coordinators.
