50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic designation for the New River
Greetings friends of the New River,This April marks the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic designation for the New River. As the story goes, former N.C. Attorney General and Secretary of State Rufus Edmisten spent the day waiting at the Department of Interior to receive the signed designation by hand so it could quickly influence the fight against the proposed dams.
