Special Announcement from Commander Greenstreet
*SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT*
Commander Greenstreet takes pleasure in announcing that John Gillespie, (Captain Tipover) and Robin Gordon, (Sergeant Slatts) are herewith members in good standing of the GREENSTREET IRREGULARS.

Howard Du Bose was a vital force in the Carolina Canoe Club. He wasn’t always easy to be around but as you’ll read below, he was eager to help new paddlers and share his time and resources. As Paul Ferguson said, “Howard had unusual techniques and colorful language.” Howard inspired a devotion in many people who looked beyond his scratchy surface. With his death, several people have stepped forward to donate money in Howard’s memory to benefit new generations of paddlers.

See Mort Barlaz’s announcement to learn how you can contribute to Howard’s educational fund but first….

*This is another SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT*
Read about a very kind offer from friends of Howards.
Howard was one of the first pillars of the CCC. He tirelessly and faithfully dragged a trailer load (and sometimes a roof top load as well) to the lake in the summer or the pool in winter. Any one who wanted could try out a boat. Just help unload it and then help reload it. No charge. He had a great love for and passion for boating. The boats at roll practice were just one way he paid it forward. He was always willing to lead a river trip. Put-ins and takeouts were not readily available on line. (There was no online.) But he knew them and shared them. Want to know what is a good level for river X? Howard knew and was a phone call away. You frequently found yourself meeting him for a guided trip down said river! He would guide you and yours on river trips. He was the boating internet before there was a widespread internet. He inspired me and others to become gracious sharers of our knowledge and skills just as he had done for us. Without the graciousness and selflessness of Howard, many of us who later became members of and officers for the CCC might not have even got into boating. A good house needs a good foundation. Howard was one of the first to be an important part of the early CCC.
It is fitting that an Education Fund Honoring Howard Dubose has been established. Just another way that Howard is paying forward.
Now, in attempt to pay it back, Nancy Gilbert and I are donating $500.00 to said fund. We are also challenging others in the club to donate and are offering to meet dollar for dollar any contributions not already made. (Up to an additional $500).
You can make a donation here: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=G7EHNAW2PAP76
We hope you join us in honoring his memory and his accomplishments.
Thank you from Joe Greiner and Nancy Gilbert.
