Event Type

Ocoee Workshop Weekend is a skills-focused clinic for solid intermediate to advanced-intermediate paddlers who want to practice complex or difficult moves in a supportive, intermediate whitewater environment. The Ocoee River provides continuous, dynamic Class III whitewater that allows paddlers to work on precision, commitment, and recovery without stepping into Class IV difficulty.

This clinic is about using the river as a training ground, not learning the Ocoee specifically.

Class Size: 6 Students

You May Be Ready for Ocoee Workshop Weekend if You:

  • Paddle Class III rivers confidently and with control
  • Have a strong combat roll that works under pressure
  • Are comfortable in continuous, pushy water
  • Can catch eddies and adjust lines in fast current
  • Want to work on advancing your skills without increasing river class

What You’ll Work On

Ocoee Workshop Weekend focuses on learning and refining difficult or complex skills in intermediate-class whitewater.

Instruction commonly includes:

  • Maintaining speed and downstream angle through long rapids
  • Precision eddy catching and fast direction changes
  • Managing momentum in pushy water
  • Linking complex moves through continuous features
  • Dynamic balance, bracing, and recovery in chaotic water
  • Boofing
  • Surfing

What to Expect

This is a two-day, on-river workshop with most instruction taking place directly in rapids and features.

Participants should expect:

  • Continuous paddling with coaching layered in on the water
  • Short pauses for scouting, feedback, and discussion
  • A faster pace than standard intermediate clinics
  • An expectation of self-sufficiency and composure

A strong combat roll is required, as rolling and recovery are considered part of normal paddling during this clinic.

Participants Leave Better Prepared to:

  • Apply advanced techniques confidently in Class III whitewater
  • Paddle continuous rivers with greater precision and commitment
  • Maintain composure and recover efficiently when things go wrong
  • Transfer these skills to other pushy, sustained rivers

Participants are exclusively responsible for their own safety.
