Event Type

Having trouble successfully running Nantahala Falls in your kayak or canoe? Bad Idea Theatre (BIT) is your opportunity to get up close and personal with the water and learn new lines through the Falls. A long standing Week of Rivers Tradition,  BIT is a crowd favorite. Bring your favorite pool float and have a go at it solo or with friends. There will be Safety Volunteers on hand to help keep you out of trouble and perhaps wrangle your float to shore. There are several rules that we must follow:

Wear your Helmet and PFD. No exceptions

No Pets on Pools Floats, period

New for 2026: Floats with individual leg holes are strongly discouraged. In that type of float, Top Hole is VERY retentive and although Top Hole surfs are great,  the Safety Volunteers get nervous when you’re in there a long time and a fully loaded raft is bearing down on you. So please don’t use that type of float.

At 4 pm, the activity is officially over and you are welcome to continue, but organized Safety will have moved on down to the Slalom Event.

All participants in any Carolina Canoe Club (CCC) trip do so as common adventurers. The CCC or its individual members may coordinate paddling trips but no one is considered leader of a trip. As common adventurers, all participants take the responsibility for making their own decisions including, but not limited to, whether it is safe for them to participate on any particular water body, what equipment they need and use, the routes they may choose to paddle, whether their skill levels and abilities are adequate for the activity or whether climate and water conditions are appropriate for their participation. Participants are exclusively responsible for their own safety.

Individual coordinators for all CCC activities set requirements per their sole discretion. The CCC does not necessarily endorse or approve requirements set by coordinators.
