What’s in the Mayo River master plan for paddlers?

Drawing shows the proposed Mayo Beach river access.

After months of work, the master plan for the Mayo River State Park is nearing completion. This plan will help guide development of the 2,700-acre park in Rockingham County for the next 30 to 50 years.

Take a few minutes to watch the video and spend some time with the river corridor maps.

Here are some examples of improvements in the master plan:

  • Parking, restrooms and a trail will be added at Mayo Beach.
  • Downstream, paddlers will one day find a river access at Joyce Ford Road with canoe camping and restrooms.
  • Another access near the U.S. 220 bridge will provide canoe camping, parking and restrooms.

Your comments, suggestions and questions are valuable, so please send them to info@mayomasterplan.com.
