“Down to the River” is a water safety book recommended for children age five to nine.  The author encourages adults to read picture books like this with the child.

Cora:  “It didn’t say their names but it was a Dog and a Cat.”

Dylan:  “The main characters are a Cat with many facial expressions and a Dog.”

Hadley:  “Cat and Dog, who looks like our old dog, Bailey.”

“They go boating.”  “Go to the river to float.”

“Went to the river to go kayaking for fun.”

Dylan:  “They also go to the paddle store.”

Tucker:  “They were life jackets in case they fall in.”  “They put on sunscreen to not get sunburned.”

Dylan:  “Life jackets, but they aren’t wearing helmets.”

Cora:  “They avoided the tree in the middle of the water called a strainer.”
Hadley:  They avoid the tree and are careful in the rapids.”

Tucker:  “I especially liked that they learned about the danger of a strainer when they encountered one.”

Dylan:  “They avoid the tree and rocks.”

After eating their lunch the Cat and Dog….

“Cleaned up.”

“They take their trash with them and leave the river clean for the animals.”

“They take all their trash and leave the river exactly how they found it.”

Cora:  “The pictures were pretty good with lots of fine lines.

Tucker:  “They are detailed and colorful.”

“I enjoyed the book.”  “Yeah, it was good.”

Dylan:  “My favorite part was when they showed the owl in the tree on page 32.”

Hadley:  “I enjoyed when the Dog is splashing in the water and the Cat looks annoyed.”

Tucker: “I recommend it for little kids because it teaches them how to be safe when they go to the river.”

Hadley:  “But they may not understand since they don’t go on rivers like us.”
