Safety Chair

Awesome Carolina Canoe Club Members,

As many of you already know I was asked and accepted a nomination for the North Carolina State Director for the ACA.  Those results will be finalized in a couple days and pending no major changes I will be your new voice at the State level in terms of paddle sports Safety, Education, Conservation, and Community with the ACA.  I look forward to the challenges ahead with that position.

When I accepted the nomination I had planned to stay on as the CCC Safety Chair however life events changed my abilities to perform duties at both positions.  This all happened at the end of our club elections so I evaluated my options for a couple weeks but ultimately decided I could have the largest impact at the State Director position.  Sadly that meant I would have to step down as Safety Chair.  I will still be a devoted club member and teach for the club, just not able to put forth the time the Safety Chair deserves.  Lucky for all of you the nominating committee was able to find not only 1 but 2 awesome people to step up and assume that position.

It has not been officially announced but they have assumed the duties and it is posted on the website so I would like to personally thank Jennifer Stockwell and Christopher Mattox for stepping up and volunteering to take over as Safety Co Chairs.  These two will do some great things for the club and I have no doubt they will make all I did for the position look mediocre.  Thank you both!  Make sure you thank them for volunteering when you see them out on the river.

As I failed to mention it earlier, I would like to also thank Will Seeley and Get Outdoors for their awesome donation of a Mad River Canoe to the safety gear inventory along with Bob Morris of Charlottesville for his donation of a Rescue PFD and fins to the inventory.  Both your contributions will greatly help the club to provide top notch training to its members.

Thank you to everyone for supporting me over the past two years and I look forward to seeing you all on a river or in one of my classes.  More to follow in the coming weeks on the future adventures with my new ACA position.

Thank you

William Holman
