NC Senate Passes Haw River State Trail Bill

By Bob Brueckner
The N.C. Senate passed a bill Tuesday afternoon that would add the Haw River State Trail to the State Park System if it becomes law.

The land and water trail would run from Haw River State Park to Jordan Lake State Recreation Area.

Sen. Amy Galey (R-Alamance, Randolph) introduced the bill in mid-February.

Alamance County has an extensive network of 14 paddle accesses, 40 miles of river trails and 20 miles of land trails.

The House Committee on State Government will consider House Bill 124, a companion bill, on Thursday, March 23. If the measure receives a favorable report, it will go to the House Rules Committee.
