Chatham residents made positive comments about the Bynum Beach Access at a community meeting held Tuesday evening, Aug. 11, 2020) at the Bynum General Store.
Residents expressed an interest in improving the put-in and increasing river access to disperse a growing number of outdoor enthusiasts.
Alamance County closed four Haw River accesses over the weekend after being told of a leak at the base of the Ossipee Dam.
The leak was reported Saturday, June 22, according to the county's website.
Glen Raven Mills, Altamahaw Ossipee Fire Department and the Alamance County Emergency Management Office are monitoring conditions at the dam, the county said.
If the dam were to fail, the county expects little damage to property.
Cleanups for 2019
Tuckaseee: Our annual Tuckasegee River/Fontana Lake will be held 8 a.m. to noon on July 1 during Week of Rivers. Bring water to stay hydrated.
Tom Womble is working with local groups in the Bryson City area to provide bags and to haul trash away, which means we can put more boaters in the water. The club will provide gloves and trash grabbers.
The Haw River Assembly's annual cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, March 16. Here are four ways Carolina Canoe Club members can help: Three by water and one by land.

Carolina Canoe Club members collect trash at the Bynum, US 64 and Robeson Creek accesses on the Haw River all year long. Let them know you appreciate their efforts the next time you see them!

The Haw River Assembly's annual cleanup will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019.
Depending on the number of CCC boaters who sign up for the cleanup, we'll collect trash on the Upper, Middle and Lower sections in Chatham County. If you want to coordinate a cleanup trip, contact Bob Brueckner at rjbrueckner@gmail.com.

Paddlers on the CCC Mighty Mayo River Trip 2018 collected 15 bags of trash, a tire and a flat screen TV.
There were a lot of bottles at the takeout. Just ask Tom Womble.

I'm coordinating three cleanup trips in February and March on the Haw River. This is a great opportunity to support one of the most popular rivers in the Triangle.
The trips are being done in conjunction with the Haw River Assembly's annual cleanup in March.
So far, Carolina Canoe Club members have collected 29 bags of trash for this effort. Unfortunately, there is still plenty of trash on the river.
CCC member Larry Ausley reported recently that the dock at the Robeson Creek access on Jordan Lake has been damaged by recent high water levels.
I left an email and phone messge for the range who is evaluating the damage. He's in training this week, so I may not hear from him unitl next week.
I'll report back to the club when I learn more.
