Carolina Paddler July 2022 Editor Notes

The Paddler AKA Carolina Paddler

Hi everyone.  Hope this goes out before the start of Week of Rivers.  This is the first edition of a new version of the venerable “Paddler” of CCC lore.  In order to give this journal a new start and not to try to live up to unattainable comparisons, we’re calling this “Carolina Paddler.”   Communications have changed so much in recent years and many jobs the prior Paddler did are now better suited to social media.  With Carolina Paddler, we’re trying to focus more on story telling: paddler profiles, river tales, hard to believe yarns.  We’ll also continue some traditions like “Larry’s Tips” and reprints of interesting articles and tales from Paddler editions of old.

This edition is very simple in layout, partly a necessity with timing and my ignorance.  Perhaps with help of able and willing hands we can improve on the design while still keeping an emphasis on the content.

Please contact me if you have suggestions. Most of all we’d like you to contribute articles.  Joe Berry showed the way with the piece on his Cruise Chair reign.  Amie Scott was very generous in time and patience with allowing us to do a profile of her.  William Holman got me started, Rick Steeves and Donnie Fleming pointed me in the right directions, >>>>>, and so many others helped in large and small ways.  Please, let’s make Carolina Paddler something that we all enjoy.
