In the US we spend over 100 billion dollars annually treating low back pain when most, if not all, low back pain is avoidable. When we become aware of our body alignment and stretch the muscles we overuse while strengthening the muscles we underuse, we can bring our bodies back to balance reducing pain, discomfort and the risk of injury from paddling. In this clinic Anna will teach the principles of optimal body alignment, go over the cause of back pain and discomfort as well as shoulder injuries caused from paddling. She’ll teach you poses and exercises to help you take control of how your body feels and performs on and off the water.

The morning session will be a dry-land session at the campground learning about the anatomy of paddling and how that affects the alignment of the body. Anna will walk you through yoga poses and exercises that help to counteract the movements of paddling and bring your body back into alignment. You’ll walk away from the morning session feeling freer in your body and equipped with knowledge that can help keep you paddling pain-free for years to come.

In the afternoon, after a lunch break, we’ll move to the water and paddle from Surfer rapid down exploring how we can maintain this body alignment and awareness on the water. You’ll paddle away from the afternoon session with strategies for better posture in your boat and better performance on the water, all while reducing the risk of injury. Plus we’ll have fun, river and playboat!

This clinic is a must for anybody who sits a lot, whether in your kayak, at a desk or in your car, or all three. For anyone who experiences low back discomfort or pain and anyone who has injuries from paddling. Balance your body so that you can paddle for many, many more years to come and enjoy the sport that you love!
