2020 Intro to Creeking
Date: 05/02/20
Instructors: Garrick Taylor and Jon Godwin
Location: To be determined: wherever the water is. Be prepared to travel.
Description: The class will be held on a Class III+ to IV creek such as Big Laurel Creek, Greenbriar (Middle Prong of the Little Pigeon), Wilson Creek, Tellico River, or a similar setting based on water levels and student interest.
The clinic will focus on techniques for creeking such as reading water, boofing, group safety and creeking protocol, running rivers for the first time, what to do in holes, and fun :-). You must have good boat control to allow you to catch small eddies and maneuver in tight spots. You will also need a reliable river roll. Students should have quite a bit of experience and be comfortable on rivers like the Lower Haw in the 2,000 – 3,000 cfs range, Pigeon Gorge, Ocoee, or rivers of similar difficulty.
The class size is limited to the first 8 qualified students.
