Safety Boater Clinic
The Safety Boater Clinic trains paddlers to function effectively as Safety Boaters within a group, emphasizing positioning, communication, anticipation, and boat-based rescue techniques. The goal of this class is not technical rescue certification.

Class Size: 10 Students
This course is intended for paddlers who:
- Are comfortable paddling and maneuvering through eddies in Class II+ rapids
- Possess a reliable combat roll in Class II water
- Maneuver downstream while maintaining awareness of others
Participants will leave this course better prepared to:
- Support group safety on Class II–III rivers
- Communicate clearly and position effectively
- Assist swimmers and boats without escalating risk
- Make smart, conservative decisions in dynamic situations
Required Equipment
- Whitewater kayak or canoe
- Paddle
- Helmet
- PFD
- Whistle
- Optional: leash tether with quick-release (if owned)

All participants in any Carolina Canoe Club (CCC) trip do so as common adventurers. The CCC or its individual members may coordinate paddling trips but no one is considered leader of a trip. As common adventurers, all participants take the responsibility for making their own decisions including, but not limited to, whether it is safe for them to participate on any particular water body, what equipment they need and use, the routes they may choose to paddle, whether their skill levels and abilities are adequate for the activity or whether climate and water conditions are appropriate for their participation. Participants are exclusively responsible for their own safety.
Individual coordinators for all CCC activities set requirements per their sole discretion. The CCC does not necessarily endorse or approve requirements set by coordinators.
