 scue Upgrade Course\n\nOne day course for anyone who attended an L3 River 
 Safety Rescue class within the past 12 months.\n\nLocation: Tentative – 
 Haw River at Highway 64 (Lunch Stop Rapid)\, Subject to change based on wa
 ter levels\n\nDate: July 30th\, 0900-1800\n\nInstructor: Chris Mattox\n\nC
 ost: $10\n\nOpen to CCC Members only. ACA Membership or $10 ACA Event Fee

 e.\n\nThis course is designed as a short program emphasizing safety\, enjo
 yment\, and skill development. The skills and knowledge gained can set the
  stage for a lifetime of exploration\, adventures\, a healthy lifestyle\, 
 appreciation of water and the natural world\, lasting memories with family
  and friends\, and a rewarding experience for all.\n\nThis L4 course is de
 signed to teach recognition and avoidance of common river hazards\, execut
 ion of self-rescue techniques\, and simple rescues for paddlers in distres
 s. Emphasis is placed both on personal safety and simple\, commonly used s
 kills. Fundamental and more advanced techniques for dealing with hazards t
 hat carry greater risks for both victim and rescuer\, such as strainers\, 
 rescue vest applications\, entrapments\, and pins also are practiced. Scen
 arios will provide an opportunity for participants to practice their skill
 s both individually and within a team/group context.\n\nNote: This is bein
 g held in conjunction with the full L4 Swiftwater Rescue class. Day one co
 vers the L3 River Safety Rescue skills. Day two covers the L4 Swiftwater R
