SUMMARY:Cold Water Safety and Rescue Course
DESCRIPTION:If you paddle during the colder months you SHOULD know the risk
 s!\nWhen was the last time you swam in your winter gear?  Do you need to 
 wear a wetsuit or dry suit?  At what temperature do you need to start wea
 ring a dry suit?  What else should you consider when planning that winter
  trip?  Join us and find the answer to all these questions and more.\n\nT
 his will be a joint Class/Clinic with the Carolina Kayak Club oriented tow
 ards newer paddlers and non club associated paddlers who do not have a gre
 at support network such as we do but all members are welcome as well as ge
 neral public.\n\nThis year the main classroom portion will be on Day 2 due
  to the classroom venue availability.  Other than swapping the days for e
 ach portion this will be very similar to the class hosted at the beginning
  of the year.\n\nDay 1 (10-22-22) will be a short classroom portion follow
 ed by the on water activities (Cold Water focused L3 RSR)\n\nLocation: Cap
 e Fear River Trail\, Erwin NC/ Campbell’s Falls\, Cape Fear River\n\nTim
 e: 9:00 A.M. (Full L3 RSR) 11:00 A.M. ((L3 RSR Cold Water specific starts)
  to 5:00 P.M.\n\nThe Cold Water specifics will be a classroom portion\, sh
 ort Safety brief\, and then a few moving water specific concerns when padd
 ling in colder temperatures.\n\nPFD\, Helmet\, and cold water protection r
 equired to participate.  All are welcome to watch and not participate.\n\
 nThe Modified L3 River Safety and Rescue(Cold Water Specific) will be focu
 sed mainly on Wading\, Swimming\, and throwing ropes to illustrate the eff
 ects of the cold water on your skills.  This portion is challenge by choi
 ce and not required to attend the class on Day 2 which will be the main cl
 assroom portion).\n\nInstructor:  William Holman\, CCC Safety Chair\, L4 
 Swiftwater Rescue instructor.\nDay 2 (Sunday\, 10-23-22) will be the main
  classroom portion and cold weather activities on the water (lake-flatwate
 r)\n&nbsp\;\nLocation: Rolling View Recreational Area at Falls Lake State 
 Recreational Area\n&nbsp\;\nInstructors:  Scott Brown\, a L4 Sea Kayak In
 structor and William Holman L1 Kayak instructor/L4 Swiftwater Instructor.\
 n&nbsp\;\n10:00 am - Classroom portion will discuss the risks of paddling 
 on cold waters\, how to mitigate those risks as a paddler and for your gro
 up and gear/clothing to consider for paddling regardless of what type of p
 addling you do.  We will also have numerous types of gear on hand to show
  everyone and possibly some to demo.\n&nbsp\;\n1:00 pm - The Flatwater on 
 water activities will include wading\, swimming\, and deep water re-entry.
   All on water activities will be challenge by choice and not required to
  attend the class.  Anyone wishing to participate in this portion must si
 gn a waiver and will be required to have PFD and cold water protection.  
 All are welcome to just observe.   This portion will be run by CKC and s
 afety will be run by CCC.\nAll courses will be free but registration or em
 ail from non members is highly encouraged to have a good idea of number of
  attendes.\n\nRegistration for this event will be open 30 days out.   If
