SUMMARY:Black River 3 Sisters Swamp
DESCRIPTION:I am offering a guided trip through the 3 Sisters Swamp on the 
 Black River in Bladen County on Saturday June 6\, 2026.  I have made more
  than 90 trips through this beautiful area\, fyi.  I am limiting the numb
 er of paddlers to 15.\n\nThe trip is about 9.5 miles with mild current in 
 coastal blackwater\, there is downfall and strainers that are easily avoid
 ed\, no portages are anticipated. It should take about 4 hours to make thi
 s trip.  We will make two stops along the way for lunch and bio-breaks\, 
 usually about 1 hr 15 minutes of time in boat before each stop.  As much 
 as possible (about 40% of this trip) will be in the swamp and amongst the 
 trees and cypress knees. Boat length of 10-15 feet works\, if you have a f
 ragile boat that you don't want scratched or dinged\, don't bring it\, thi
 s is a trip with things that can grab your boat. We will have a helping cu
 rrent of about 1 - 1.5 mph but we will be padding the whole time and doing
  a lot of dodging and bouncing off trees and cypress knees.\n\nSnakes are 
 present as in any swamp\, I have never seen or heard of any gators in this
  section.\n\nPut-In: Henry’s Landing\, 18556 NC-210 Hwy\, Ivanhoe\, NC (
 GPS 34.54055 -078.27588).  As you turn in on the dirt road look for a lar
 ge red mailbox on the left\, this is where you pay the boat fee. PAY AS YO
 U GO IN. $5 per boat\, follow the dirt tracks to the left when you have a 
 choice to get to the boat ramp. NO restroom facilities here\, the woods ar
 e your only choice.  Please be at Henry's Landing by 9 AM. We will offloa
 d boats and shuttle all vehicles to the take-out\, one or more drivers wil
 l return drivers to the put-in.\n\nTake-out:  Newby’s Landing\, 85 Long
 view Rd\, Kelly\, NC (GPS 34.47424 -078.20021).  Turn down the dirt drive
  and when the path curves to the right\, look for the birdhouse pay box on
  a pole on your driver’s side. PAY AS YOU GO IN. $3 per boat. We should 
 be off the water by 4 PM.\n\nThis river is not in Raleigh\, you will be ou
 t in the country and the closest store\, fuel or porcelain-based restrooms
  will be at least 15 miles away\, so come with a full gas tank and an empt
 y bladder.  The woods will be your lavatory.\n\nI am a crusty old codger 
 and I have no EMS or first aid skills.  We will be in wilderness the enti
 re time and rescue will be miles and hours away.  If you have any medical
  conditions of concern\, I do not reccommend this trip for you.\n\nMitch L
