Big Laurel Creek
Big Laurel is rain dependent. Today (Thu) it was + 6 inches @ noon. Moderate rainfall today maybe a little more in the next 24. These are thunderstorms so rainfall is unpredictable. My expectation is that Big Laurel will be +2-3 on Friday morning and +1 on Sat morning. You can run it as low as -4 (even -6 if you are tolerant of scraping), so +1 is decent level / pretty good first time level. It is class 3+ creek at the expected level and thus technical. We usually paddle BL to the junction with the French Broad river and take the French Broad to Hot Springs. You can read a more detailed description on the AWA Big Laurel page.
We will tentatively meet at the Laurel River Store at 11 am on Saturday. If people are driving long distances we could make it a little later or set shuttle and have the stragglers meet us @ LRS after shuttle. My e-mail is attached to the trip posting. I will also post it on the club FB page.
All participants in any Carolina Canoe Club (CCC) trip do so as common adventurers. The CCC or its individual members may coordinate paddling trips but no one is considered leader of a trip. As common adventurers, all participants take the responsibility for making their own decisions including, but not limited to, whether it is safe for them to participate on any particular water body, what equipment they need and use, the routes they may choose to paddle, whether their skill levels and abilities are adequate for the activity or whether climate and water conditions are appropriate for their participation. Participants are exclusively responsible for their own safety.
Individual coordinators for all CCC activities set requirements per their sole discretion. The CCC does not necessarily endorse or approve requirements set by coordinators.
