Quotes from Our Admirers

Subject: My best 4th of July ever
Hi you all,
The title can be is misleading since it is the first time I am in the states in this date but still…
There is no better way to spend it then paddling…
And if possible to do it for a whole week it even greater. I really enjoyed the paddling even though you are having a drought, the three dam releases were quite enough for me.

What really amazed me was the good old southern hospitality, everybody was so nice, helping, getting me the gear and offering me beer wherever I went. I especially like to thank Larry and Lezlie, Ben and Idi, Ron, Rick, Bret and all the others who were just great .

I would really love to come in the future again and I am proud to be the first Mediterranean club member (unless you have a hidden Syrian or Iraqi). If anybody wants to come to Israel paddling where Jesus walked (or surfed or ferried) on the water I would be happy to help.

Thanks you all and I would love to come back paddling.

That [2007 list of CCC accomplishments] is an impressive list and certainly something to be proud of. Never before have I been involved in such a well run organization. You name it, everything has been done top-notch. The officers have been awesome Never have I been approached in such a friendly manner by all the members of the group. It is no wonder that the club is as well known nationally as it is.

The CCC clinics were awesome; two full days of instruction in beautiful weather. Thank you Mary Hebrank for keeping everything and everyone organized. Thanks also to Laura Evans for organizing the various Canoe groupings.

Our 3 great instructors were committed to helping each of us improve, to stay safe & relaxed, and to have fun. Much appreciation to: David Blumberg, Dale Swanson, and Peter Van Gieson for volunteering their weekend to teach us.

One student in our class commented….  it's like a whole year of instruction for $60.00. we'll be practicing all year, the things we learn in two days…. what a bargain !  We all agreed.

Thanks to all for this excellent opportunity to improve.

CCC people are fantastically awesome… or how else can I adequately describe how nice the guys on the Haw on Thursday afternoon were to someone who is just now plunging into whitewater? Folks like you are a big reason why I have wanted for so long to be a new paddler instead of just an aspiring one. Thanks again.

I would like to thank Johnson Rice and stick in a plug for Milton Wicker and Kurt McKissick for an outstanding trip down the Upper Gauley on Saturday. I was stressing about the trip. I had always said that I would never run the Upper Gauley. It doesn't take that much excitment for me to have fun. Johnson is a good paddler, gave expert advice and made me feel at ease. Johnson also has an excellent eddy line roll. Thanks guys, I look forward to paddling with you again.

I wish to publicly thank Robin Pope for donating all day and part of a night for a Methods Update and Advanced WW Instructor Certification at WOR. The CCC is just plain lucky to have a high level Instructor Trainer/Swiftwater Trainer like Robin who considers it a calling and a privilege to give his time and energy to CCC and its members. The quality of his teaching is one thing but his attitude puts him a cut above the others and we are very, very lucky.
Thank you, Robin— very much. Our club is greatly benefited by folks like yourself.
Johnson Rice

I just wanted to let you know what a great Beginner Clinic we had with [Instructors and assistants]. We had taken a class two summers ago at [commercial outfitter] that was very good but it pales in comparison to the skill, camaraderie and fun that we had this weekend. [The Instructor] and his crew are an asset to the club and we hope to catch up with them on the river again soon.
Best regards, RaeLynn Carr

Thanks so much for the generous offers [to loan us gear for the beginner course]. We've found a boat that seems to be a good fit. It speaks volumes about this community that so many people were willing to loan us gear. Hope to see you on the river sometime.

I am really impressed with the officer and membership involvement with watershed and water quality issues. In my 26 years in the club, this involvement has gone from negligible to significant. I hope that continues.

I have taken the beginner and novice paddling clinics. These clinics are well-run and the teaching is top-notch.

The clinics, particularly the Novice clinic, was very valuable to me, in that I was able to get very personalized instruction from experienced paddlers on rivers that really pushed me.

I think that the CCC does a great job at making courses available to the membership.

My thanks to all of you who helped rescue Chipper, my Beagle, on the Lower Haw today. I greatly appreciated your taking the time to help. Hope you had a good run.
