You are invited to attend a stakeholder meeting to develop a trails
master plan for the Lower Haw River State Natural Area in Chatham
County.  The purpose of the meeting is to share wants, needs, and
concerns your organization may have regarding use of this state natural
area.  Please note that this date and time has been reserved
specifically for your stakeholder group.  Please let us know who from
your organization will attend, so we can get an approximate head count
for handouts and refreshments.  If you are unable to attend this
stakeholder meeting, there will be a public input meeting on October
19th from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Chatham County Agriculture &

The Lower Haw River State Natural Area, a unit of NC State Parks,
consists of 1,025 acres on both sides of the Haw River from above US
15-501 near Bynum to below US 64 to Jordan Lake State Recreation Area.
Although informal use by hikers and paddlers has occurred for years,
this state natural area is considered undeveloped by NC State Parks
since there are no authorized land and paddle trails or amenities.
Permitted uses for this state natural area include hiking, paddling,
fishing, and swimming.  Activities that will not be permitted are
camping, horseback riding, mountain biking, hunting, recreational
motorized vehicle riding, or recreational motorized boating.

We encourage you and other members of your organization to get involved
in the conversation about the future use of this special place.

This project has been made possible with a grant from Triangle
Community Foundation´s Support for Places Awareness Program to Friends
of Lower Haw River State Natural Area, a local chapter of the nonprofit
Friends of State Parks.  The Friends group is working with Recreation
Resources Service to develop the plan and is collaborating with NC
State Parks and other stakeholders as well as the public for input.
