Officers-Secretary/Treasurer

My name is Randy DiCello and I’m on the docket for Secretary/Treasurer for the Club for 2023. The CCC has done so much to help me progress with my paddling skills and I felt like this was a way for me to ‘give back’.

A little about me – I was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Goshen Pass was my favorite childhood swimming hole. I think our spot was around the Indian Pool area. I still drive though that area and visit the river when I make trips home to be with family. I never tire of that lovely place!

I attended James Madison University and graduated with a degree in Medical Technology. After graduation I settled in Roanoke for about 9 years before moving to NC in 1990. While in Roanoke I had a great group of friends with whom I skied, biked, played tennis, hiked, tubed, and ‘recreated’. I was introduced to whitewater on a group rafting trip with these folks on the Gauley. This was way back in ’85 or so and I STILL remember the put in (at that time) and the water rushing out of the tubes on the dam. I did several other rivers with these folks before moving to NC, where for the next 20 or so years life, marriage and motherhood took priority. About the time my son was a Junior in High School, I decided it was time for me to get back out on the water. I bought a Hurricane Sojourn and did quite a bit of flat water paddling with a group who liked to view sunrises on Lake Norman! Eventually I took a couple white water classes and I was hooked. I still have a lot to learn but I see myself progressing at least a little each year, and some of that progress is because of the classes, support and mentoring I found with CCC.

And now here I am, candidate for Secretary/Treasurer.
