CCC Easter Trip

Event Date:
Thu, 04/13/2017 - Sun, 04/16/2017

Hi guys,The Easter trip in NE Tennessee this year will be on April 13-16.

As in previous years we’ll be staying at Warrior’s Path State Park near Exit 59 on I-81 near Kingsport, TN. I’ll be there from Thurs evening through Sunday and we’ll run trips on Fri, Sat, and Sun. If there is interest we can also organize a trip on Thursday for early birds.

I will reserve 4 sites in Section A of the park campground for CCC’ers , which will be available on a first come/first served basis. In the past we’ve accommodated 2-3 tents per site. There are more individual sites that can be reserved from the campground. For those who prefer to stay at a motel there is a Comfort Inn, a Super 8, and a Colonial Inn near Exit 59.

It’s too early to make predictions about what will be running but usually we have at least the Nolichucky, French Broad, Holston, and the Clinch. In past years we have been able to hop on Big Cedar Creek, Laurel Creek, Whitetop Laurel Creek, Watauga, Greenbriar section of the Middle Prong of the Little Pigeon, Big Stony Creek, and the Toe Gorge.

Because Easter is falling late this year the weather should be warmer and the redbuds and dogwood in bloom. We will run at least 1 novice level trip each day and other trips depending on water levels. For those with non-paddling family members, there are beautiful hikes and mountain biking trails in the area,

This is run somewhat like a 3-day mini-Week of Rivers. There is no need to notify that you are coming and there is plenty of room for all who wish to participate. There will be at least one novice level trip each day and, if we have more novices than one trip can safely accommodate, then we'll run more novice trips. In addition, we usually have Intermediate and advanced trips each day. Come and paddle with old friends and make new friends.
