Pigeon Gorge
There is a recreational release on the Pigeon Gorge on Saturday 8//22. I plan on meeting around 11 am. Location (put-in vs takeout) depends on group size and how many people are carpooling.
In 2025 we were putting on at the bridge just above Vegomatic. The road to the powerhouse has been significantly improved since last year. Since mid-spring, I have been putting in at BFR. There is limited parking there, so if you use that put-in make sure that your vehicle is COMPLETELY off the road. This put-in has been uncrowded (no 1,000 rafts) and you get 3 additional rapids, some play, and 3/4 mile extra of river.
The Pigeon Gorge changed dramatically post Helene. It changed again, moderately, for 2026. For ’26 the construction crew has filled in about 25 ft of the right side of the river from the old Playground to Accelerator with riprap. The river is narrower and faster. If your favorite line was on that 25 ft, you need to find a new line. This can come into play at Double Reactionary.
Let me know if you are joining this trip by 6 pm on Friday, so I have a little time to plan the logistics. Please let me know if you are carpooling.
Regards,
Lee
