Event Type

Come paddle a lesser-seen section of the Haw, launching right from downtown Saxapahaw and enjoying easy flat moving water with a handful of very casual class I and a few II- rapids.

When: March 14th, 2026 meeting at 1:30pm

Where: meet at the put in (the old parking lot for the Paperhand Puppets & Haw River Canoe & Kayak shops – before the Chantal flooding). We’ll figure out shuttle as needed. There will be a contingent of paddlers running the same section with Haw River Canoe & Kayak, so we might combine forces on a shuttle depending on numbers.

What (Else): Did you know there is a “River Social” happening in Saxapahaw on the 14th? Yep. Look it up. If you wanted to enjoy some good food and paddling films, just stick around in Saxapahaw later. Tickets for that are $15 online and $20 at the door.

Who: This is a great section for less experienced paddlers.

GAUGE NOTE: This section runs best when the “Haw River at Haw River” (Red Slide) gauge shows about 2.5′. If the water level is a bust we will pivot to a Sax lake paddle most likely.

All participants in any Carolina Canoe Club (CCC) trip do so as common adventurers. The CCC or its individual members may coordinate paddling trips but no one is considered leader of a trip. As common adventurers, all participants take the responsibility for making their own decisions including, but not limited to, whether it is safe for them to participate on any particular water body, what equipment they need and use, the routes they may choose to paddle, whether their skill levels and abilities are adequate for the activity or whether climate and water conditions are appropriate for their participation. Participants are exclusively responsible for their own safety.

Individual coordinators for all CCC activities set requirements per their sole discretion. The CCC does not necessarily endorse or approve requirements set by coordinators.
