Driving time from Durham is 4hrs. From Asheville it is 1hr 20 min.
It has a nice campground with plenty of room for all. I will be staying at Campsite 7 in Loop A and we will meet there every morning at 8:30 to go over river levels and organize trips. I will I have also reserved campsites 3, 5, and 9 for Thurs-Sat nights for CCC members, first come-first served, up to the capacity of the sites. I will be there Thurs night to help folks get settled and to answer any questions. You may wish to reserve your own site online by going to

The exit leading to the Park is Exit 59 on I-81 in TN. There are several motels nearby for those who prefer that option. For those coming up with non-paddling friends/family, other things to do in the area are 1) biking on the Virginia Creeper Trail in Damascus VA, 2) mountain biking at Warriors Path SP, Steele Creek Park in Bristol, and many trails and roads in the Mt Rogers NRA, 3) caving at a local cavern, and 4) hiking on Clinch Mtn, Mt Rogers, or Pinnacles Natural Area.
Motels near the campground are
Motel 6-Kingsport, 4234 Fort Henry Dr, Kingsport, TN 37663, (423) 239-3400
Comfort Inn South, 624 Fairlane Dr, Kingsport, TN 37663, (423) 239-7447
Super 8, 1238 E Shipley Ferry Rd, Kingsport, TN 37663, (423) 406-2729
We will meet each morning at campsite 7 at 8:30AM and review the river levels.  We will decide which river trips we want to do and divide up into groups.  Each day I will guarantee to lead a Novice+ trip. Usually Fri is on Laurel Creek/South Holston in Damascus VA; Sat is on the Puckett’s Hole section of the Clinch River; Sun is on the Toe Gorge near Burnsville, NC. These are all Class 2-3 runs.
Usually the Nolichucky Gorge, Lower Nolichucky, Lower Whitetop Creek, and French Broad 9 are running and are options for those interested.
Other runs which become available with enough rain are Watauga Gorge, Big Rock Creek, all of Whitetop Laurel Creek, Beaverdam Creek, Tennessee Laurel Creek, Greenbriar Section of the Middle Prong of the Little Pigeon, Lower Doe River, and Big Cedar Creek.
Starting about the weekend before the trip, I will post river levels and predictions, so you will have an idea what’s running.

All participants in any Carolina Canoe Club (CCC) trip do so as common adventurers. The CCC or its individual members may coordinate paddling trips but no one is considered leader of a trip. As common adventurers, all participants take the responsibility for making their own decisions including, but not limited to, whether it is safe for them to participate on any particular water body, what equipment they need and use, the routes they may choose to paddle, whether their skill levels and abilities are adequate for the activity or whether climate and water conditions are appropriate for their participation. Participants are exclusively responsible for their own safety.

Individual coordinators for all CCC activities set requirements per their sole discretion. The CCC does not necessarily endorse or approve requirements set by coordinators.
